About Us

Tactix Armory was founded by custom bladesmith Walter Sorrells.  After forging high performance Japanese style blades for over a decade, Walter turned to making semi-production tactical and field knives.

"My philosophy has remained the same over the years," he says.  "First and foremost, a blade has a job to do.  It's a tool.  Every aspect of a knife's design and construction flows from that simple fact."

Walter came to bladesmithing out of a longstanding interest in Japanese martial arts.  He holds a 3rd degree black belt in a Japanese karate style and has trained in several Japanese sword arts including Shinkendo and an iaido style as well as studying aikido and Brazilian jiujitsu.  Walter is also a competitive pistol shooter, holding Master rank in International Defensive Pistol Association shooting.

VP of Operations, Michael Hughes, is former Operations Director of the Atlanta Track Club, where he organized and staged one of the world’s largest road races, the Peachtree Road Race, for more than 17 years.  He has also been a member of the board of the American Road Racing Association, and a consultant in the road racing industry.  Michael has an extensive martial arts background, with many years training in judo and Shinkendo, and is an accomplished competitive pistol shooter.
